Every GLP-1 product label handles a missed dose differently, so the answer depends on which one is prescribed. For Ozempic, the label says a missed weekly dose is given as soon as possible within 5 days after the missed dose; if more than 5 days have passed, the dose is skipped and the next one lands on the regularly scheduled day [1][7]. Wegovy injection counts in the other direction: the label looks at how far away the next scheduled dose is — more than 2 days (48 hours) away means the missed dose is given as soon as possible, while less than 2 days away means it is not given [2]. What does each GLP-1 label say about a missed dose?

How late can an Ozempic shot be taken?
The Ozempic label counts forward from the missed dose. Section 2.1 instructs that if a dose is missed, Ozempic is administered as soon as possible within 5 days after the missed dose [7]. If more than 5 days have passed, the missed dose is skipped and the next dose is administered on the regularly scheduled day [7]. In each case, the patient then resumes the regular once-weekly dosing schedule [7]. The highlights section of the label states the same rule: administer within 5 days of the missed dose [1][7].
How does the Wegovy injection rule work?
Wegovy injection is the same molecule as Ozempic — semaglutide — but its label counts from the opposite end of the week. Instead of measuring how long it has been since the missed shot, the Wegovy label measures how much time remains before the next scheduled shot [7][2].
Section 2.4 of the Wegovy label says that if one dose is missed and the next scheduled dose is more than 2 days away, the injection is administered as soon as possible. If the next scheduled dose is less than 2 days away, the dose is not administered, and dosing resumes on the regularly scheduled day of the week [2]. The patient counseling information states those 2 days as 48 hours [2].
The label states its rule in two parts — more than 2 days away, and less than 2 days away — and does not give a separate instruction for a gap of exactly 2 days [2].
How late can a Mounjaro or Zepbound shot be taken?
Mounjaro and Zepbound, both tirzepatide, share the same missed-dose window. The Mounjaro label (section 2.1) instructs that a missed dose be administered as soon as possible within 4 days (96 hours) after the missed dose. If more than 4 days have passed, the missed dose is skipped and the next dose is given on the regularly scheduled day, after which the regular once-weekly schedule resumes [8]. The Zepbound label (section 2.3) carries the identical 4-day (96-hour) window [3].
Both Medication Guides add a spacing limit: no 2 doses of Mounjaro within 3 days of each other, and no 2 doses of Zepbound within 3 days (72 hours) of each other [8][3].
What does the Trulicity label say?
Trulicity, like Wegovy injection, counts toward the next scheduled dose. Section 2.3 of its label says a missed dose is administered as soon as possible if there are at least 3 days (72 hours) until the next scheduled dose. If less than 3 days remain, the missed dose is skipped and the next dose is given on the regularly scheduled day, then the regular once-weekly schedule resumes [4].
Can a weekly shot be moved or taken a couple of days early?
Each weekly label allows the day of administration to change, with a minimum gap between the two doses:
- Ozempic: the day of weekly administration can be changed as long as the time between two doses is at least 2 days (more than 48 hours) [7].
- Mounjaro and Zepbound: the day can be changed as long as the time between the two doses is at least 3 days (72 hours) [8][3].
- Trulicity: the day can be changed as long as the last dose was administered 3 or more days before the new day of administration [4].
The Wegovy Medication Guide also tells patients they can change the day of the week as long as the last dose was given 2 or more days before [2].
What happens after several missed doses in a row?
The labels treat a string of missed doses differently from a single missed dose, and the restart instructions are addressed to prescribers:
- Wegovy injection: if 2 or more consecutive doses are missed, the label directs the prescriber to reinitiate dosage escalation at a lower dosage, to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions [2]. The Wegovy Medication Guide tells patients who miss doses for 2 or more consecutive weeks to contact their healthcare provider to talk about how to restart treatment [2].
- Foundayo: if 7 or more consecutive doses are missed, the label directs reinitiating dosage escalation at a lower dosage to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions [6]. The Medication Guide tells patients who miss taking Foundayo for 7 or more days in a row to call their healthcare provider to talk about how to restart [6].
- Saxenda: if more than 3 days have elapsed since the last dose, the label directs reinitiating Saxenda at 0.6 mg daily and following the dose escalation schedule, to reduce gastrointestinal adverse reactions associated with reinitiation [5]. The Medication Guide tells patients who miss their dose for 3 days or more to call their healthcare provider about restarting [5].

What do the labels say about missed daily tablets?
Wegovy tablets are taken once daily, and the label says that if a dose is missed, the missed dose is skipped and the next dose is taken the following day [2]. The tablets are taken on an empty stomach in the morning with water — up to 4 ounces, and no other liquids — swallowed whole, not split, crushed, chewed or dissolved, with at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medications [2].
Foundayo (orforglipron) is taken orally once daily, with or without food, swallowed whole [6]. For a missed dose, the label says to take it as soon as possible, not to double up the next dose, and not to take 2 doses in the same day; the maximum is 1 tablet per day [6].
What about Saxenda, the daily injection?
Saxenda (liraglutide) is injected once daily [5]. If a dose is missed, the label says to resume the once-daily regimen as prescribed with the next scheduled dose, and not to administer an extra dose or increase the dose to make up for the missed one [5]. The Medication Guide phrases it the same way: take the next daily dose as usual on the following day, with no extra dose or dose increase [5].
What if too much is taken or doses land close together?
The Mounjaro, Zepbound and Foundayo Medication Guides all give the same instruction if too much is taken: call a healthcare provider or the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222, or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away [8][3][6]. The Mounjaro and Zepbound prescribing information also list the Poison Help line under overdosage, noting the tirzepatide half-life of approximately 5 days [8][3].
The Saxenda Medication Guide states that taking too much Saxenda may cause severe nausea, severe vomiting and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), and tells patients to call their healthcare provider right away [5].
How long do these drugs stay in the body?
The pharmacokinetics sections of these labels state how long the drugs remain in the circulation:
- Semaglutide (Wegovy) has an elimination half-life of approximately 1 week, and will be present in the circulation for about 5 to 7 weeks after the last injectable dose of 2.4 mg or 7.2 mg or oral dose of 25 mg [2].
- Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound) has a half-life of approximately 5 days [8][3].
- Liraglutide (Saxenda) is dosed once daily [5].
