Eli Lilly launches Foundayo weight-loss pill in the UK at about £100 to £120 a month

Eli Lilly began selling its weight-loss pill Foundayo in the UK on 24 August, offering the once-daily tablet by private prescription at roughly £100 to £120 (about $136 to $164) a month while coverage by the state health service remains undecided ^[1][3].

Reuters reported the UK launch and said Britain is the first country in Europe where the oral treatment is available ^[3]. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency authorised orforglipron, the drug's chemical name, on 10 August for weight management and type 2 diabetes ^[6]. Foundayo is the second GLP-1 tablet to reach the UK market, after Novo Nordisk's Wegovy pill ^[3].

The UK license covers adults with a body mass index of 30 or above, and adults with a BMI between 27 and 30 who have at least one weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. A second indication covers blood sugar control in adults whose type 2 diabetes is not sufficiently controlled ^[6].

The tablet is taken once a day at any time, with no food or water restrictions ^[6]. Treatment starts at 0.8 mg and steps up through 2.5 mg, 5.5 mg, 9 mg, 14.5 mg and 17.2 mg, with a minimum of one month at each level ^[6].
