Novo launches multi-month Wegovy subscriptions

Novo Nordisk launched a multi-month subscription program for Wegovy (semaglutide) on March 31, 2026, letting eligible self-pay patients lock in a fixed monthly price for three, six or 12 months ^[3]. The company says a 12-month plan can save up to $1,200 a year on the injection and up to $600 a year on the pill compared with paying month to month ^[3].

What the plans cost

For the Wegovy injection pen, the prices are $329 a month on a 3-month plan (a savings of $240 a year), $299 a month on a 6-month plan ($600 a year), and $249 a month on a 12-month plan ($1,200 a year) ^[3]. Novo's press release lists the pen plans as covering the 0.25 mg, 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg and 2.4 mg doses ^[3]; CNBC's summary of the same plans omits the 1 mg dose, so the sources are not identical on that point ^[2].

For the Wegovy pill, the 9 mg and 25 mg doses cost $289 a month for three months (a $120 annual savings), $269 for six months ($360), and $249 for 12 months ($600) ^[3]. The lower pill doses are handled separately: self-pay patients pay $149 a month for 1.5 mg and 4 mg, but the 4 mg offer runs only through August 31, 2026, after which that dose is $199 a month ^[3]. Wegovy HD, the 7.2 mg injection approved on March 19, 2026, will be added to the subscription program at a later date ^[1][3].

Novo says the monthly price stays flat even if a patient moves between doses, and that people can opt out while a subscription is active ^[2]. The program is available through Ro, WeightWatchers and LifeMD, with Hims & Hers, Sesame and other telehealth companies expected to join ^[3]. Terms vary by platform, and Novo says patients should contact the telehealth provider for eligibility and enrollment details ^[3]. It is not offered through Novo's own NovoCare Pharmacy yet, though an executive said the company may build it out there over time ^[2].

How it compares

Reuters calculated the discounts at roughly 6% to 29% below Wegovy's standard $349 monthly self-pay price for the injection, and about 3% to 17% below the $299 standard price for the pill ^[4]. Novo had already cut the standard injection price to $349 from $499 in November after a temporary $199 starter-dose offer ^[4]. People with commercial insurance may pay as little as $25 a month through existing savings programs ^[3].

Competitor pricing differs by dose. Eli Lilly's self-pay prices for Zepbound (tirzepatide) start at $299 a month for 2.5 mg, $399 for 5 mg and $449 for 7.5 mg and higher under its Self Pay Journey Program ^[4]. Lilly holds an estimated 60% of the US branded GLP-1 market versus about 39% for Novo ^[2].

Why it matters for patients

The main change here is predictability, not a new discount on a single fill. Cash-paying patients who commit to a longer term get a lower, fixed monthly price, but the tradeoff is paying for a block of months up front or on a set schedule — and the deepest savings require a 12-month commitment ^[3]. Novo says patients can cancel an active subscription, though it did not detail refund rules in the release, and the company says terms differ by telehealth platform ^[2][3].

Staying on treatment has been a persistent problem: one 2025 study cited by CNBC estimated about 65% of patients with obesity stop GLP-1 treatment within a year, for reasons including cost, access and gastrointestinal side effects ^[2]. Novo frames the subscription as a way to address the cost part of that ^[3].

What happens next

August 31, 2026: the $149 price for the 4 mg pill dose ends, moving to $199 a month ^[3]. Lilly's oral obesity drug was under FDA review, with the company expecting approval in the second quarter of 2026 ^[4]. Novo has not said when Wegovy HD 7.2 mg joins the subscription plans, or when NovoCare Pharmacy might offer them ^[2][3].
