FDA approves Alli, the first over-the-counter weight-loss pill
On February 7, 2007, the FDA cleared Alli, an over-the-counter version of the weight-loss drug orlistat, for sale without a prescription. Alli is a 60 mg capsule taken three times a day with fat-containing meals, half the 120 mg dose in the prescription drug Xenical. It was the first FDA-approved over-the-counter weight-loss pill.
