Court invalidated Eli Lilly's Prozac patent in 2000, beginning a long stock decline
On Aug. 9, 2000, a federal appeals court invalidated Eli Lilly's patent on the antidepressant Prozac, and the company's shares fell $31 within hours. The stock had reached an all-time high of $108 the day before and later bottomed at $29 in 2008. Lilly went on to face expirations on four other medicines that accounted for $10.4 billion of its $21.8 billion in 2009 sales.

Novozymes spun off from Novo Nordisk, leaving drugmaker under foundation control
Novozymes was separated from Novo Nordisk as a spin-off, dividing the Danish company's enzyme business from its pharmaceutical work. Novo Nordisk is controlled by Novo Holdings A/S, a wholly owned unit of the Novo Nordisk Foundation, which holds about 28.1% of its shares and 77.1% of its voting shares. The drugmaker reported 2025 revenue of 309.1 billion kroner and 2024 net sales of US$42.121 billion.
