Novo Nordisk formed in 1989 by merger of two Danish insulin makers
In 1989, Novo Industri A/S and Nordisk Gentofte A/S merged to create Novo Nordisk A/S, then the world's largest insulin producer, headquartered in Bagsværd near Copenhagen. The two companies had competed since the mid-1920s. The same company today makes Ozempic and Wegovy and reported net sales of US$42.121 billion in 2024.
